Furs, Feathers and Fashion
Around 1550, the “Beaver Era” started and lasted for about 300 years. Pelts were treasured for their warmth, texture, and durability and therefore many were traded. Other furbearers were trapped during this era. What animals suffered because of the demand for its fur? There will be displays of vintage beaver, mink, raccoon, fox, and exotic fur clothing and accessories.
Centuries ago, bird feathers were sought to adorn hats and more. While these fashions have passed on, can the birds be preserved? Displays of vintage hats and other items explore this decorative tradition and its impact upon the natural world.
The exhibition will run through May 15, 2022 during the our regular business hours. Click To view our Virtual Tour
