Bernadette Hoffman, the educator and all-around “Jack” of the Pember Museum continuously strives to create new temporary exhibits for the New York State Path Through History weekends and other small exhibits throughout the museum. It is indeed a challenge with the amount of available space.
In June, she accepted a donation of wood carved birds from Charles and Barbara Vengrove. The carvings were part of Charles’ collection since the late-1960’s. There are nine exquisite miniature carved birds signed by the artist William Reinbold. Other artists include William Argabright, Norton, Gary M. Starr, and a J.B. Several objects are not signed. Typically, we do not accept anything that is not a natural history object but these carvings fit in with Pember’s taxidermy specimens.
The exhibit “Life Inspired Art” which displays many of the items donated will run from November 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020. The exhibit case is located between #5 and #6 of the large museum display cases. Please visit us to view first hand these fine bird sculptures.
